oh wow that’s an awesome effect on that purple portrait. Is that some acrylic technique?
Hey Sergio,
I was talking about this my my blog with Tim and Scott earlier. I was watching a special on Rembrandt and they gave a short demo on how he achieved his golden yellow light. He would start with painting the figures with an umber color then heavily applied white over it. Over the pure white he would glaze and pull out highlights along with painting in the darks. I haven’t painted this way since I was a junior in college so it was fun to go back without having to follow any sort of rules so to speak.
Scott explained with far more eloquence than I ever could, Here is what he said.
“You apply a heavy impasto -and I find using a palette knife or bristle brush works best. Let it dry completely. Next painting session, apply a glaze, over it. The glaze itself can be pretty dark in value. Then you gently wipe away a bit. What happens is, that even though you wipe it away a good deal of pigment gets stuck in the grooves of the impasto.”
These are oils. I think acrylics work better for layering and glazing though.
great piece of info rich :D
Hey! love the way you handled the linear/drawing with paint aspects of ‘Highway 255′ along with the value and color considerations. Looks great!
