Two sides of the same coin
Some Jekyll and Hyde explorations :)

Hello everyone,
I am happy to share my latest painting. This landscape is of Sugarloaf State Park. It’s one of my favorite hikes, and unfortunately because of state budget cuts, it will most likely be closed soon. I found it to be especially important to give the area some honor by recording it for posterity. I also pushed myself to do a painting that is more along the lines of the painters of the past. I am a big fan of Hudson River School Painters, but I never received such type of training, thus here is my best approximation mixed with what I’ve learned from so much plein air paintings. I would like to pursue this vein of painting more, but it is quite the labor of love to paint in such manner. I have learned a lot from doing this painting.
I started off with doing small plein air paintings of what I sort of thought I might like to do. I did a few of these.
I also did some studies of various elements in the scene.
After having a better idea of what I might want to do, I went back to do another plein air study of the area. This is starting to get closer to what I want the picture to be.
After doing the plein air studies, I gathered all of my references, collected inspiration of paintings that were closest to what I wanted my paintings to be, and had everything in order, I did this preliminary study. As you can see, it’s pretty close to what I ended up with as a finished painting. From here I went on to do the finished painting.

Hey Gang ! Just sharing some concept pictures I did for Spicy Horse studios back in 2008, during the very early stages of gameplay brainstorming for Alice Return in Madness. I was asked some colorfull ans twisted pictures, testing a new art direction, but they chose to return to the initial Alice McGees dark atmosphere finally. And they ended making a great game :3
Some exiting new stuff happening lately. I recently made this for the show with Timmy or the other one with Rick Berry and friends. Basically, I’m making a bunch of new ones and this is the latest.

Hello true believers, (<-Stan Lee used to say that when I grew up)
Here is some look development from a feature film earlier this year. I don’t do too much 3D sculpting these days, so this is fairly rare.

One of the things I’ve been up to for the last several years has been constructing, deploying, and creating software for high dynamic range imaging to assist with image based lighting in post. These rigs are used on set to quickly capture a 360 degree high dynamic range image for each VFX shot involving a CG object or character. After the fact, the images are used by the lighters to quickly match the on set lighting. There’s usually some tweaks or beauty passes after that, but this process has sped up photoreal lighting a whole ton. The particular rig used for this image is the same I’ve made for a few VFX studios. There are now 30 deployed worldwide.
I’m actually going to be covering this subject for the upcoming Gnomon Masterclass event, but I think that’s a secret for the time being :)
In other news, there’s a little interview with my thoughts on production over at The ScratchPost.
It’s mostly lovey dovey stuff, but a fun read :)

had a tiny bit of downtime today, so squeezed out a very speedy ref-less landscape, not great, but great fun, and that was the point of it really!

stellar stuff as always!
