Le Havre

by

Bonjour,
As we all know sometimes a painting takes 2 hours to be achieved some take 2 months, well I started this illustration last year and added the final touches today. A long and slow digestive process. Am still not happy with certain things but I’ve decided it was time to let it be and move on.

It’s about searching for a place to call home… hope you like what you see. click for bigger version

  1. this is adorable. very strong mood and real excellent value perspective with the trees and what not.
I also get a nice, nostalgic Tove jansen kind of feel. (old Hurri probably knows who I`m talking about, hehe..)
    which is wonderful.

    keep it up!

    Pat.

This is lovely! I love that little blue guy so much, great expression, and great mood overall :)
I kinda wish that the little cottage were a bit more stylized though.

  3. Zombine says:

    nice picture.
is this a chaos symbol on the roof?

  4. oyo says:

Patri : Thanks for making me discover Tove Jansen ! Am glad you like the trees, I spent so much time on them, they ve change so much since the beginning where it was more of a swamp place.

Entdroid : Merci ! As soon as I read your comment, I told myself ” Damn that’s what i missed” the stylization. Now I want to distort this house and add a more crazy Hansel and Gretel vibe to it ! ^^ Oh well !

Zombine : it is yeah ^^ Chaos is such a big part of traveling and ending up living in random place with random people etc

  5. ho for sure.
she`s one of my childhood heroes (heroine).
there was nothing better at age 8 than crawling under a blanket in your pajamas and 2 layers of socks with a Tove Jansson book. I`d be up all night submerged in her wonderful storytelling and weird minimalistic yet lively illustrations. :)

I don’t normally comment, but this is just wonderful. The depth, the mood, the lighting – all fantastic.

  7. This is so nice… I love the warm lighting against the little blue dude.

  8. oyo says:

Patri : Hehe I can understand, I ve got the same memories but with different books and heroes : Asterix and Lucky Luke between others, different culture ^^

    Richard : Thanks :p

Dead Mellotron : Merci ! This was quite a challenge cause the warm colors were standing out so much I had to find tricks to bring the attention back on the blue dude but at the end im quite happy with the atmosphere created.

  9. nope, not so different at all, buddy – I still have a large Asterix, TinTin and Lucky Luke book collection from that same age. still flip through `em every so often.
    :)

(sorry for spaming your post like that, hehehe…)
