amazing color vision, how do you approach the color choices ? I d love to have a go at this angle of approach. Reminds me of some of James jean studies…
oyo: it’s a feel thing for me. although i wanted the boobs to be a cool color i had no intention of making them blue. i have a heavy hand so things sometimes come out more extreme than they are intended to. my main focus is to keep the values right and use whatever. highly saturated or grayed down is moot. i set loose parameters and then let the pictures dictate to me while keeping loose control. lot’s of fun for me.
Don´t mean to sound harsh here, but here´s a question: What is it that makes nudity dirty? I’m not sure i get it… I feel kind of weird when i see something that could be a simple ‘nude’ called dirty. Are we as humans getting ashamed of our natural part as animals?
Sorry for popping this question up, but i’m a fan of the blog and the artists here and as a student myself that’s something that comes in my head once in a while, as I tend to hide my anatomy studies from general viewers myself. Just contributing ( i hope) for a bit of theorycal clash of ideas here.
I love the mood the color sets in your work, it´s a great deal u do with such a naturality. Congratulations.
i like how it gets closer…and closer…and closer…next step is in person *cough*
but: absolutely gorgeous. it doesn’t read as gouache. it reads like some perfected thing. if that makes sense? like the media plays no part in admiring it
Frederico: Good point. You’re right on this. It seems (at least in America) in todays day and age that the naked body is viewed purely as a sexual being. Every time I display a nude I can see them get a little uncomfortable. Maybe it is shocking to see a nude body on the wall now? I’m not too familiar with the European art scene but my gut tells me it isn’t as taboo. Mainly due to the fact that there is nudity on tv over there. That would be unheard of here. Without going to deep into today’s over the top politically correct America I do believe it is getting to be excessive. There was a point in time where the nude figure was a beautiful thing as a piece of art.
About your comment on whether to keep your nudes private. I say don’t. If you’re making them why hide them? Even if it is a sexually charged piece. It wouldn’t be the first time an artist has done that. If it is an honest work it will show and people will respect that.
Timmy: You rock. I’m glad to hear you like the new stuff.
That is super tasty! Love the colours!
Blue boobies are always a total win!
