 thay are really jsut little filler environments to as paragraph spacers , or jsut for flavor for the book , we want to have it every page have someing or sevral somethings even on a text heavy page

hey hey been bit busy but here’s something form tonight , after years of not owning a sharpener for my cluch pencil i bought one a  few weeks ago lol its pure pleasure , I’m sure i wont retire my .3 but defitnely enjoying the 2 mm

So this doodle’s really not much of a “concept” — it’s an exercise ‘ cause I’d like to focus just on the problem of getting these materials to appear credibly lit. I’ve concentrated most of the paint damage on the edges and corners, and I tried adding very tiny bevel highlights and microshadows to the edges of the chipped paint.

Yes, I guess I could’ve used brush textures instead of a hard circle brush to speed things up - but I’d like to be able to do this stuff competently the old-fashioned way before I resort to any trickery. I did learn to use smaller-radiused brushes to “scumble” wherever the larger brush wouldn’t fit, and a footpedal control to adjust the brush size made this job a lot easier.

UPDATE: Okay, so I think I’m getting the hang of switching up the saturation and hue while staying in roughly the same value — and using detail as a way to add visual interest without destroying the large forms.

portrait studies for a commission

Here’s a few pictures I’ve done over the holidays. I’ve got tons of sketches on paper to scan as well when I find the time to do so.

The tutorials were made for a friend of mine and the starwars redesigns have gotten a second pass on them. More of those will come up soon as I’ve design more characters on paper.

This Dragon painting was for a speedpaint tutorial for a magazine.

A fantastic and totally unreal beginning of the year for me. After watching the fireworks on rooftop of a friend’s building, and by randomly following friendly people in the street, I ended up partying in a penthouse on 3 levels on top of another building with a hidden jacuzzi watching over the whole sydney harbour and equiped with lots of bubbles and intoxicated creatures ( i can still hardly believe it myself). After such a good time and good energies exchanged… I decided to go and welcome back our divine goddess the Sun on the cliffs of Bondi Beach and create my first artwork of the year. My partner in crime Adam joined me moments after I arrived at 4.30am, we sat in the twilight zone and started jamming with a good wine and marshmallows while a little crowd gathered behind us… Life is good… Salute !

and that bloody skilled fisherman taking a fish every 2 minutes and shouting !!!
Am really happy with how this shot turned out. To me, it really captures the energy
of that moment :)

I thought I would share some photos of a fantastic new years morning plein aire that Oyo and I decided to have down at Bondi Beach here in Sydney.

This was my 3rd plein aire in oils, and Im slowly starting to get the hang of it - im freeing up with my colours, and more importantly I am maintaining pace over the whole session without slowing down, which makes it much more enjoyable. I have a long way to go, but this latest session has inspired me to tackle it again and again.

The session itself was quite challenging. The motif I chose was from a rocky headland, looking back in towards a small cove on the south side of bondi. The sun was rising behind me over my left shoulder. I painted it over about 1.5 hours, and I had to contend not only with rapidly changing light, but also a rising tide, and a few drunk spectators who insisted on sitting right next to my bag/video camera which I was using to film the session - which was a bit distracting. I found the shifting colours to be quite confusing at times as I would look back to an area I had painted and see that the colours had shifted completely from cool to warm as the sun came up.

Luckily, with such a quick painting, i didnt have enough time to overwork it and lose the sponteneity, so i think i captured the moment well enough.
