Been fairly blocked from art making due to moving SF to Montreal. But we’re here now! - and I squeeked in a week of painting before the mountain of boxes dropped on our heads. Here’s some of my usual self indulgent life drawing :)

[All 1.5 hour poses, watercolor on 10x14 canson blocks].

[20 min poses - ballpoint and gouache (dry pans), post in PS5]
Last night was the Gallery Girls Midsummer Nights Dream drawing party in San Francisco. Always a great models and interesting costumes. They are more active in LA than SF - check their site for details on upcoming events.

Sketching at the Metamorphica drawing event. People need to get the word out about this event! These are some fascinating, inventive, agile, athletic, inspiring models. And the live music is great. In the mean time, I’ll enjoy that it’s not too crowded, and I get to feel like I’m doing something underground :) [ Linkage: busstopgallery.blogspot.com - badunklsista.com ]

Here’s a sketch about…well you can probably figure out what it’s about.

I’ve been finding that I want to draw larger these days. Lets me be expressive, but also get in there and create detail. I’ve been doing this thing where I’m drawing in graphite on tracing paper. I just let layers and layers of trace pile up. All taped together in a mat. Eventually I take it all apart and scan the pieces. Of course, it’s just an analog emulation of digital drawing – but it’s more organic. You can smudge with your fingers :) Sometimes I’ll print the collage and draw over it some more. For some projects I’ve cycled in and out of the computer three or four times.

I’m often a little let down with Rogues in fantasy gaming. They never seem quite as cool as they should be. They’re kind of the black eyeliner’d step children of the genre. DPS Mages and Tanks seem get more love from designers. Certainly in Dragon Age (my current game of choice) they’re underpowered. Possibly I’m just missing my bad ass enemy juggling ninja vanishing, teleporting stun-lock Rogue from WoW. What I *really* want is Thief redone as Splinter Cell/Assassin’s Creed/Mirror’s Edge/ with this girl as the main character. Is that too much to ask?

Dragon Age Fan Art! Playing around with ideas for companions. The Green Knight: A Treant seedling who thinks he’s human. He germinated through the corpse of a fallen Grey Warden, filling his armor, and somehow taking on his memories. Heh :) I’m such a dork. These are the kinds of D&D stories that come to me.

Hey neat! - my Imagine FX article is on the stands in the US. Is it tacky to talk about your own PR? Maybe - but whatdaheck. If it is, someone tell me. I’m tone deaf about such things. I wish I could post the whole tutorial somewhere - but they retain the rights for six months. I guess a ‘zine’s gotta make some money somewhere! So until then - here’s a teaser. It’s the March 2010 Issue #54 if you want to get a copy.

Bad Unkl Sista is an experience. They’re a mashup of Butoh without the depression and couture without the haughty. However you try to classify them - what they are is art, imagination and drama. Oh and humor, sex and silliness. And they put on a hell of a drawing event. Here’s some sketches from last night’s Metamorphica:

Seems like it’s been ages since I just drew for fun! Despite a crazy schedule we made time the other night just to hang out and do some doodling. As usual when I don’t have a specific subject - I’m drawing Oracles. Headdresses, Kimonos, all that fun stuff :)
