In-Class Demos

by Adam Paquette | May 21st, 2008

I had a feeling some of my uni students were getting bored with the standard photomanipulation stuff i am teaching them at the moment (as per the curriculum), so I did a bit of live painting to open them up to some of the alternative possibilities of digital art.

These were both half an hour each. Topic was simply Environment with stones.

Quick sunlight experiment

This was a 25 minute colour study I did to test out some theory that James posted over at GurneyJourney. Such an obvious element of light, but I completely missed it up until now. Had a good epiphany moment…

Rule: In the shadows, during daylight, up-facing planes catch blue light, but down facing planes catch radiosity from lit ground. Simple huh?

Geez, no pressure!

At the risk of persecution for general mushiness and uncharacteristic sensitivity, I must say I am awed to be in the company of such upstanding artisans as you lot… So good to see this on such a good roll after only a day or two. Tiffany that painting is stellar… I’m jealous!

Since Cody set the precedent I’m going to cheat and put up a slightly older piece - my last man standing entry that I was fairly happy with, and also the character I did for the Light vs Dark challenge, topic ‘Leaf Goddess’. My first character in 6 months  Hope you like!
