Obstacles

by Sergio Lopez | April 29th, 2009

I was out painting between St. Helena and Angwin. I was psyched to get out there and paint this scene, which is one of my favorite spots. But guess what! I forgot my watercolor paper at home! So fortunately I had a piece of cardboard that happened to be in my trunk. The other side was being used as a palette a long time ago. It took a lot of layers to get this amount of opacity.

Here are a few shots I took while painting this scene. Not much of a step by step; next time I go out, I will document my process better. I think a lot of you are curious.

These were at this month’s Dr. Sketchy’s at the 111 Minna in SF. Unfortunately I was about 30 feet away from the models. I left after a while because I couldn’t see well enough. I tried to make the most of it…

Just dropping by to show some recent activity….sorry I haven’t been posting much lately - I feel bad when it’s not awesomewickedmonstersexyladyrobots…I think moving to Marin is making me into some kind of  ‘nice guy’ or something. Haven’t drawn a monster in aaaages :)

Hey Gorilla Peoples! Here’s a handful of those critters I did for a facebook app - there’s like scores more of these but I can’t show ‘em till they release. :( The game they were originally intended for was put on hold so they’re going to be used as charms for an existing app. I hope they get their own spotlight soon. :/

The quality of the work you guys have been posting is…intimidating.

~ changed my mind. the art i had here was stink! so here is this: one of a few framed pieces i had hanging in a recent exhibition for my studio building. it was a really fun night ~ great to see my hermit studiomates finally, and also great to sell some work and get another commission! so the next morning hurt. i love the frame though.

the painting i was selling for like, i dont even care how much. say 20 bucks: it was a study. but the frame. shit that’s why it went up in price.

face

a quick portrait of a recent commission patron after finishing his paintings. in my style (as in ‘what the hell is that?’) (blurry)

kevvy

and the wetdry sandpaper i used on panels to get em nice and eggshell smooth. the figure was more evident when i was drunk :) but still fun to do. wanna do more, and more better
